- MacApp.Tech$ Participants:
-
- The Association is pleased to announce that we have launched the new MacApp
- tech support area on America Online. For those of you unfamiliar with America
- Online, it is a commercial on-line service similar to CompuServe, but geared to
- Apple and Mac users and developers only, though that is rumored to soon change
- with the addition of PC access as well. AO has a great Mac interface.
-
- This new service should be a God-send for those MacApp developers who are not
- AppleLinked. It marks a major expansion of our growing MacApp community. The
- MADA area on America Online is one of several new developer areas that will
- be launched on AO over the next few months.
-
- If you are already an AO subscriber, you can find the new MacApp area in the
- new Developer Associations folder in the AO Development Forum (keyword: "mdv",
- to save a couple of mouse-clicks).
-
- NOTE: Read the "How to participate in MacAppTech" before diving
- into the message board, because our message board operates a bit
- differently than most on AO.
-
- The MacAppTech Board contains all of the discussions posted to MacApp.Tech$ on
- AppleLink, as well as those posted directly on AO. All messages are threaded.
- Messages from both online services will be cross-posted regularly between the
- two services. (Please bear with us for a week or two, however, while we
- resolve a formatting problem with AppleLinked messages that get cross-posted to
- AO with hard carriage returns mid-line. Don Sawtelle and Pat Slider of
- Stonecutter Software, MADA's SysOps, are working on a filter that will correct
- the problem.)
-
- NOTE: If you don't want your file or message cross-posted to the other
- service, simply place an asterisk (*) as the first character in the
- subject. We hope this isn't used frequently, because we want to encourage
- the widest dialogue possible.
-
- The new MacApp area on AO also includes most of the resource files available on
- AppleLink, including The Class Room, tools, revs, etc.
-
- We expect most all of you to continue using AppleLink for your MacApp tech
- support and discussion. However, if you are not currently an America Online
- subscriber, you can take advantage of a special MADA group rate if you sign up
- now. There is no registration or software fee; the normal $5.95/month
- subscriber fee will be waived for six months; you will get one hour of free
- non-prime connect time each month; and there are no KC charges. Connect-time
- rates are $5.00/hour non-prime, and $10.00/hour prime.
-
- TO SIGN UP: Call toll-free, 1-800-227-6364. You will be routed through a
- voice mail system by using your touch-tone phone. When prompted for an
- extension number or special offer number, enter "5376." (From a rotary
- phone, ask for extension 5376.) You will be asked for your name and
- address. A specially-coded AO start-up kit will be mailed to you at no
- cost.
-
- If you wish further information, please link the Association (MADA). You can
- also reach us on AO at the same address (MADA). Or call 206/252-6946.
-
- If you want to contact SysOps Don Sawtelle or Pat Slider, email them at
- AppleLink: STONECUTTER, or on AO: MADA SYSOP.
-
- Thanks,
- Bill Anderson
- Manager (and a real nice guy)
- MacApp Developers Association
-
- P.S. If you are currently an AO subscriber, please link us your AO screen name.
- We will give you access to a members-only folder that is invisible to
- non-members, and which includes a couple of items on AppleLink (such as Mouser)
- which are not available to the general public. Those members who subscribe to
- AO under the special offer mentioned here, will automatically be given access
- to the non-public folder within one week of logging on to AO for the first
- time. (Sorry, current AO subscribers cannot take advantage of the special
- sign-up offer.)
